History of Emmanuel Fellowship
"What would you do for God, if you knew you couldn't fail?" During small group Bible study in the late 1990s, retired missionary Kenneth Gullman was gripped by this question. A recurring vision began to take shape in his heart. "Maybe start a new church?" Participation in a Baptist General Conference church plant in Harrisonburg, Virginia led to the next step.
In early 2003, this congregation set apart Ken and his wife, Erma, to begin a church in the Broadway/Timberville area. On May 4, 2003, Gullmans held the first "Church of the Rock" Sunday Bible study hour in their home. Five people were present. By mid-August, the name had changed to Emmanuel Fellowship and the group hosted a brunch and the showing of the "JESUS" film. On September 7, 2003, we moved to Broadway High School.
Special events have included a Potato Bar, gathering food for hungry families in November, and participating in "Operation Christmas Child."
Worship style combines traditional and contemporary songs and forms. "Stories out of Africa," impersonations of Bible characters, dramas and regular sermons bring variety to Sunday morning worship services. A coffee hour follows the Sunday service and deepening relationships are fostered during this time.
Opportunities abound for involvement in ministry in this church. Group events include brunches, picnics and celebration dinners.
